CIPE

Centro Internacional de Pesquisa e Ensino (CIPE)

Inaugurated in August 2010, the new head-office of the International Center for Research of A.C.Camargo Cancer Center (CIPE), in São Paulo, is installed in an area of 4 thousand m², and has two large laboratories with capacity to shelter over a hundred researchers. CIPE distinguishes itself by promoting integration between assistance, teaching and research, in addition to encouraging exchange between doctors and scientists inside and outside the Brazilian territory. Protocols conducted in partnership with researchers of the United States, Canada, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and several other countries of all continents are in progress.

CIPE's infrastructure is comparable to those of the best international centers. Post-graduation students, doctors and scientists that work in the new center develop research in cancer cellular and molecular biology, genetics and genomics. The teams of the Research and of the Science and Technology National Institute (INCT) on cancer, which is funded by the Brazilian federal government and FAPESP - State of São Paulo agency that fosters research - are among the groups that currently use the building.

Among the last generation equipment, Solid 4 large scale sequencer is the highlight, as it permits to determine the sequence of complete human genomes in less that one week, with great accuracy and lower cost. Research results conducted at CIPE permit to understand the mechanisms that are involved in the outbreak and progress of tumors and the identification of new molecular markers for the most common cancers in the country. This mapping will permit future treatment individualization to each patient.
